'Google suggests webmasters use site soundtrack gadget' by Kate Billinghurst 21/01/2009 Google has advised webmasters to entice more visitors to their pages by using a site soundtrack gadget.
Website developers could entice more people to their pages by inviting them to compile a site soundtrack, Google has claimed.

Sites using Google Friend Connect could employ social application creator tools iLike to enable an interactive social music playlist gadget.

Writing on the official webmaster central blog, Google Friend Connect manager Mussie Shore claimed iLike's playlist gadget "lets you and your visitors shape the site's 'musical footprint' as a group".

She explained that anyone visiting such a site would be able to listen to songs and add their own favourites if they use Friend Connect.

Ms Shore advised website developers who already have the Friend Connect application on their site that the playlist gadget is just a few clicks away.

The gadget, she added, is "a great example" of how a social application has the ability to create a sense of community on a website, saying: "What better way to engage your visitors?"

Google recently announced it was to launch a new Sitemap generator aimed at enabling webmasters to create and manage better Sitemap files.

The point of the generator is for the webmaster to employ various ways to find URLs on his site, as opposed to having crawl websites or link lists.
