Twitter - is it useful or a waste of time ? by Tony Thornby 14/02/2009 Use of Twitter is exploding. Opinion is divided whether this is a good or a bad thing.

Twitter lets you send little 'tweets' (no more than 140 characters) to your followers or website.

Celebrities love it and have many followers.  Steven Fry got stuck in a lift and instantly 100,000 people received "I'm stuck in a lift on the 26th floor of Centre Point.  Hell's teeth.  Could be here for hours.  Arse, poo and widdle".  But also this week the Dalai Lama's Tweetings were exposed as fakes reported Matthew Moore in the Daily Telegraph.

Jeremy Grady (in the Week) said "Twitter is doubless a further example of the profound inanity on our age - only twits Twitter - but it also marks a fascinating development in the evolution of celebrity culture.  The celebrities are answering back".  Terence Blacker in the Independent said Twitter is the home of "anti-thought, the deadening white noise of modern life with all its pointless business.

The Times reported that it doesn't make any money 'yet':  But Twitter's owners are developing search facilities which would open potential for companies.  The buzz about Twitter is about to get louder.

And of course Living Streams is already using Tweet to supplement its Internet Services Business News RSS feeds.
