Nick Stamoulis of Search Engine Optimisation Journal explained that since the future of the web lies in online video, developers should take certain measures to ensure they are ready to catch on to the emerging phenomenon.
He suggested that webmasters should include a video sitemap separately from the HTML and SML sitemaps on their website.
"You should have a separate landing page for each video on your website and make sure that the search engines can crawl your site and find those videos," he said.
Provided developers optimise the site's landing pages, by ensuring they have appropriate titles for example, they could show up on a search at a higher ranking than their original source.
For example, YouTube videos that are republished on a website with sophisticated landing pages could provide the site with higher search rankings than YouTube itself, Mr Stamoulis claimed.
This comes shortly after director of search at Faction Media Stephen Riegel recently wrote on a BtoB blog that SEO is important to help websites through the recession.
