New Facebook website design 'a failure' by Kate Billinghurst 21/03/2009 Facebook has failed to win the approval of some of its users with its latest redesign, it has been suggested.
Facebook's latest overhaul of its website design has been a failure so far, it has been suggested.

According to Patricio Robles of Econsultancy, it seems that the relaunch has flopped in the eyes of its users, some of whom have voiced their concerns in a polling app on the social network.

Over one million of the site's 175 million active users have voted against the new layout to date. The revamped site features a new news feed on the homepage that displays all of a user's friends' status updates, a change that has been likened to Twitter's format.

The new homepage also includes a new Highlights section on the right-hand site that users are unable to customise and new filtering options for the news feed.

Users' profiles have additionally been tweaked so that Wall items are displayed differently compared with the previous version of the site.

Despite the results of the user poll on the redesign, Eric Eldon of VentureBeat suggested that Facebook should not listen to the complaints of a minority of its users and should concentrate on "going forwards".

However, Mr Robles said: "Sometimes what a company considers progress is a step backwards for users.

"The risk for Facebook is that its leadership and product managers get too disconnected from their own users."
