Report predicts rise in mobile CMS spending 01/09/2008 This will be driven by the increase in editable website access from mobile devices.
Organisations running editable websites for the mobile channel around the world are set to spend a collective $8 billion (£4.4 billion) on mobile content management systems (CMS) by the end of 2008, it has been claimed.

According to a forecast from Insight Research Corporation, video production firms, telecoms carriers, content aggregators, TV broadcasters and electronic game and music publishers will up their spending on such systems as the mobile channel continues to rise in popularity.

The report also suggested that a major shift in the type of CMS programs launched on the market will take place over the next five years, with organisations increasingly developing systems capable of managing content for a variety of channels rather than those that only work for specific devices.

"When content becomes reusable across multiple delivery channels its value increases enormously, which will foster investment in developing the next generation of content management tools," explained Robert Rosenberg, president of Insight Research.

Recent Nielsen Mobile figures suggested that email and search are the two most popular online applications for those using the internet via their mobile handsets in Europe.
