VoIP 'affected' by Windows 7 19/01/2010 Have you experienced any difficulties with using VoIP? (Andy Carter)

Window 7 rocks VoIP usability - Living Streams keeping you informed of developments that matter

Operating Systems need more thorough pe-launch testing as business use of VoIP becomes more common

Microsoft's latest development Windows 7, which was launched towards the end of last year, has been causing difficulties for internet marketing consultants and others when it comes to using VoIP.

According to the company, when audio playback and capture applications are used in conjunction with the program, hanging can occur.

Such a situation is exacerbated by the fact that the simultaneous use of capture and playback is a frequent one with VoIP applications.

This, Microsoft observed, can be put down to the fact that WaveOut API may inadequately process audio files if responses on devices are slow, or there is a problem with how WaveOut API is handling playback requests made by applications.

It was noted that the only way to resolve such difficulties is by restarting the program and all those operating with Windows 7 Enterprise, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Starter, Ultimate, Ultimate N, Start N, Professional N, Home Premium N and Enterprise N may be affected.

"This is a bug. Microsoft is planning to release a hot fix," the organisation stated.

Meanwhile, the company has entered into a new partnership with Intel Corporation to provide the digital signage sector with an optimised platform, offering a more reliable and better performing solution.
