Twitter will not be used to carry adverts this year, its co-founder has confirmed.
Speaking at the 140: Twitter Conference in Los Angeles, Biz Stone stated advertising will not appear on the micro-blogging service before 2010, despite repeated speculation over the site's business model.
He told the event that investment and funding received by Twitter means it is "pretty good right now" and confirmed that it intends to focus on adding new services and introducing a wider range of features.
"Any kind of approach toward advertising is going to be awhile ... we're not thinking about that just yet," he remarked. Mr Stone also reiterated that commercial accounts will become a feature of Twitter, which will offer analytics tools and improved search options.
However, those wanting to access these services will have to pay a fee, he stated.
The company has also announced that it is to improve integration with a number of services offered by AOL, meaning users of Bebo, AOL.com and the AIM instant messaging services will be able to publish their tweets across platforms.
Such features are also available for sites such as Facebook, Flickr, Digg and YouTube.
