www.order-order.com Launched in 2004, this right-wing political blog is written by 43year-old-former political activist Paul Staines - aka Guido Fawkes. www.treehugger.com This is the world's most popular green blog', attracting 3.5 million unique visitors a month. Founded by Quebec-born eco-entrepreneur Graham Hill, it reports on everything from renewable energy in China to the best electric cars.

www.perezhilton.com Specialising in celebrity gossip, Perez Hilton is arguably the internet's most "notorious - and recognisable - blogger". Cuban-American Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, set up the blog in 2005; it now attracts a claimed 13.5 million readers a month.

www.huffingtonpost.com A "formidable networker", Arianna Huffington has persuaded the likes of Barack Obama and Madonna to "speak their minds" on her site, a leftleaning news and comment blog that attracted 40 million unique readers in February.

www.dooce.com Heather Armstrong is a 35-year-old mother from Salt Lake City who started blogging in 2001 about her life as a "recovering Mormon". In 2005 she started accepting advertising and she has since won a Lifetime Achievement Award, been listed in Forbes's Most Influential Women in Media list and met President Obama.

www.inspectorgadget.wordpress.com Gadget is a police inspector with a force somewhere in rural England. "It's provocative stuff, and as an insight into life on the policing front line in 2010, it's invaluable."

www.theparamedicsdiary.blogspot.com Stuart Gray is a paramedic working with the London Ambulance Service. His "compelling and plainly written" diary is full of "bloodcurdling drama". Each entry ends with the heartfelt plea to "be safe".
