Google search now to correct spelling, accept more languages and displays images better
Technology giant Google has announced a series of updates to its search program, including improved layout of pictures in Universal Search, a move that internet marketing consultants may find improves their conversion rates.
Automatic spelling correction has also been added by the company and those typing in search queries are now prompted to ensure they have entered the correct term with the question 'Did you mean …', which is followed by a list of results for the corrected word or phrase.
This, director of product management in search Johanna Wright observed, will save users an extra click.
Furthermore, image layouts have been altered to reflect the style of a magazine when Google feels that it has "great image results to deliver". A larger picture, alongside smaller ones, will be generated and provides users with more options to choose from.
And additional languages have been included as well, with the search options panel is available in 17 more tongues, such as Hebrew, Bulgarian, Latvian, Slovenian, Vietnamese, Serbian and Greek.
This feature in Google Search is accessible in 40 languages, which encompasses more than 98 per cent of search traffic.
These revisions follow Google's announcement that it has taken measures to further personalise its service, offering "the most relevant results possible".
It gave the example of conducting a recipe search and putting the site most clicked on higher up the results page when the next query is carried out.
