Search engine Google has made further improvements to its URL in some search results, replacing this with a hierarchy that indicates the exact location of a page on a website.
Software engineers from the company Harvey Jones and Daniel Rocha observed that the new display will also offer users more valuable context, alongside enhanced navigation options, changes that will be available on a global scale over the next few days.
The pair, writing on the Google blog, noted that URLs can often be too long, short or obscure to provide useful information but, with the new product, the added context may help people in deciding whether or not to click on a search result.
This may potentially boost website promotion for search engine optimisation firms and others.
Mr Jones and Mr Rocha went on to say that the goal of Google is to retrieve data as quickly as possible, whether through improving how websites are represented or providing new methods of exploring content.
"We're always happy when we can introduce a feature, like site hierarchies, that does both," they wrote.
Google recently announced its acquisition of software manufacturer Gizmo5, a company that specialises in creating products that enable clients to make voice-over-IP phone calls through their computers.
