Microsoft has announced that its Live Search application will be set to combat malicious threats from web pages that crop in searches.
Writing on the official Microsoft Live Search blog, software design engineer Christian Seifert said the application's primary goal is to protect web users from potentially harmful pages.
"As Live Search crawls the web, we assess whether a page contains any malicious elements or exhibits any malicious behaviour and then flag questionable pages with a warning message," he said.
The warning message, he added, will not hinder users from accessing pages that might expose them to risk rather it will simply advise them against it.
Mr Seifert warned users that while threats from malicious programs in the past came mainly from questionable websites, even reputable sites can be tampered with by a third party.
He therefore urged website creators to sign up for Microsoft's Webmaster Tools to secure sites from abuse in the first place.
Microsoft recently launched a new Live Search application programming interface for publishers and web developers, Project Silk Road, to provide them with a streamlined content management system.
The programme is customised in that it serves search results in the rank and format that businesses choose themselves.
