IE8 Beta 2 launched, offers improvements for web developers 28/08/2008 New version opens up the browser fo web developers and internet consultants as well as users.
Following the release of details about Internet Explorer 8's private browsing mode earlier this week, Microsoft has now launched the second beta version of the new browser.

The new beta can be used by both consumers and internet consultants, Microsoft said, although the latest version does contain a number of improvements likely to be of interest to web developers, Edward Correia of the DaniWeb blog noted.

Among these are new Ajax features and improvements to DOM and HTML 4.01 cross-browser inconsistencies, as well as the fact that IE8 passes the rendering Acid2 test, he explained.

Microsoft has also said that the full release of the browser will see it fully support CSS 2.1, while the new Web Slices feature allows developers to mark a part of a web page as a "slice" that can be taken by users to other sites.

Mr Correia highlighted other features such as a compatibility view for those browsing older websites and the ability to recover data lost as a result of a browser window crash.

IE8 Beta 2 is available for the 32 and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, supporting English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified) and German languages.
