The impact of Google Social Search on SEO 11/06/2010 Top ten search ranking even more important (Emma Furze)

Social Media presence now impacting SEO - seen as important to relevance

Firms hoping to make use of the new Google Social Search function may find they can use it to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques, it has been said.

The service enables an individual to search using their personal connections, so web results are most relevant to them and their circle of friends and acquaintances.

As a result, John Greer suggested in an article for Search Engine Watch that companies should be tapping into the likes of Twitter to use the facility to their advantage.

By using keywords in updates, a subscriber base can be improved considerably, he indicated.

Mr Greer continued: "Your company's other social profiles also need to be highly subscribed, actively updated sites with good content.

"Long-term, consider everything from Google Buzz to Facebook."

Optimising email newsletters is another option for businesses considering their SEO strategies, he revealed, meaning that firms should look beyond sending out images to their client base.

A recent report from IAB Europe and InSites Consultancy showed web users do not want to browse several results pages when using a search engine.

They instead expect the top of the list to contain the most relevant search results.
