Starting out in SEO can be daunting - let Google help

Internet consultants who are considering making use of search engine optimisation (SEO) as a marketing strategy but who have never done so before may like to visit Google's Webmaster Central Blog, as tips for beginners have been detailed.

According to Maile Ohye of the company, there are several options for companies looking to start using SEO campaigns.

Those who are keen to learn through reading can, for example, download the SEO Starter Guide, while advertisers who prefer to watch videos may benefit from turning to the Search Friendly Development programme, although it was noted that parts of this session are more technical.

It was also recommended that SEO novices research topics of interest in the Webmaster Help Centre, which could help answer any questions that have arisen.

Assistance regarding verification of ownership of websites can also be found in Webmaster Tools, where more specific and confidential data regarding pages can also be located, such as crawl errors and messages from Google.

Furthermore, Ms Ohye added that conducting research before taking action is advisable and can be done by visiting the Help Centre, reading posts on the Webmaster Forum and seeking help from the Webmaster community.

Regarding these options, Rene LeMerle of ineedhits.com noted that, although it does appear to oversimplify SEO, its approach "is sure to get people moving in the right direction".
