A list detailing the most effective online PR strategies for the past year has been revealed by an American company, with social media and organic search engine optimisation (SEO) ranking at the top.
'SEO.com' found that the growth of social media has been strong over the course of the year and returns are beginning to be seen on campaigns that have been conducted over pages similar to Twitter and Facebook, such as the viral message set forth by Ikea on the latter, 'Direct Traffic Media' reports.
This may be down to the fact that such strategies are cheap to produce and use online communities to promote merchandise on behalf of brands.
The news source gave Coca-Cola as an example of this, noting that the manufacturer's My Coke Moments initiative established an online network of 13.5 million people through sharing can designs on Facebook and allowing users to interact with the advertising.
SEO was also highlighted as one of the best marketing tools for companies as it pays long-term dividends by giving firms prolonged rankings on search engines such as Google and has more to offer than other avenues, like pay-per-click.
And brands appear to be increasingly interested in the benefits that SEO can bring, as revealed by a recent TechRadar report.
According to the study, more than 113 billion searches were conducted in July of this year, which may clarify the profitability of being at the top of search results for advertisers.
