SEO to make more use of Video and Social Media in 2010
Search engine optimisation usage by internet marketing consultants looks set to evolve in the coming year, if the predictions of one analyst are to be believed.
According to figures from eMarketer, budgets for search advertising in the US look set to increase in 2010, from $10.8 billion (£6.6 billion) where the amount currently stands to $11.4 billion and the company's David
Hallerman noted that, as part of this, advertisers will bring in data from the social internet.
He observed that Twitter will be the main driving force and engines such as Google will use this information to deliver results that are more relevant, as well as better advertising.
People should also expect to see greater use of video results in general search queries, which, as Mr Hallerman remarked, will assist in enticing higher levels of traffic to websites.
This is something that marketers will come to increasingly expect in a trade for the higher costs of using video in ad placements, he went on to note.
And the utilisation of this may be advisory for firms, as recent figures from comScore's Video Metrix service revealed that 158 million surfers used the web to watch video of some kind.
The most popular sites for observing such films were Google, with 42 per cent of all internet viewings and Viacom, with 3.8 per cent.
Microsoft followed third in the rankings, with 3.0 per cent.
