Rich media advertising as part of mobile apps 07/09/2010 Google interest in mobile devices extends beyond Adwords (Craig Swallow)

Keep a Close Eye on Google for Marketing via Mobile Phones

Mobile advertising could well prove to be the way forward for internet giant Google, it has been suggested.

Editor of Mobile magazine James Atkinson suggested that Google is likely to be looking to cash on the ever-growing mobile advertising trend.  "There was a lot of talk that when Google launched the Nexus phone [that] it was really just them wanting to find a way to protect their online advertising on the fourth screen," he commented.

Mr Atkinson predicted that the iAd network is likely to increase competition in the sector further, meaning Google will seek to take advantage.  Mobile advertising allows for a "rich media experience", the expert revealed, which has the potential to expand even further as technology advances.

Apple will debuted its iAd mobile advertising network on July 1st on iPhone and iPod touch devices running its iOS (Operating System) 4 software platform, the company recently announced.  It will enable users to stay within their app while engaging with the ad, even while watching a video, playing a game or using in-ad purchasing to download an app or buy iTunes content.

The product launched with ads from top brands such as Chanel, Nissan, Unilever and the Walt Disney Studios.
