As Mobile Users Increasingly Want to Access the Web They Move to SmartPhones like the iPhone
It seems that smartphones are dominating the mobile market at the moment, with one new study clarifying their popularity.
Millennial Media revealed that nearly half of all mobile page impressions are made on smartphones as people show an affinity for interacting with their handsets.
According to emarketer, the report also found that more subscribers own feature phones, but still only make up around a third of mobile advertisement views.
iPhones in particular are popular with users, followed in second place by BlackBerrys.
Requests for material through the Apple operating system (OS) stood at 70 per cent of the total market in March, compared to 14 per cent for Research In Motion - the manufacturer of the BlackBerry.
Android accounted for six per cent of advertising requests, while Windows Mobile ranked not far behind with four per cent.
Apple was hailed for the level of customer satisfaction it provides.
This follows research from Gartner which showed that, in 2009, smartphone sales reached 172.4 million units, a 23.8 per cent increase from 2008.
In the smartphone OS market, Symbian continued its lead, but its share dropped by 5.4 percentage points in 2009.
