Microsoft Live Labs has announced the launch of its new Thumbtack which is aimed at identifying, classifying and clarifying online content.

Commenting on the official Live Labs blog, Microsoft claimed that the application will help internet users organise the hoards of information they need to take away from the internet, such as photos and links.

Microsoft claimed that users will be able to compare prices, colours, styles or locations quickly and effectively.

"Grab the stuff you want from lots of different sites, put it into a Thumbtack collection then get to it from anywhere you can get online," it said.

The new information collection application employs "machine learning and natural language techniques", enabling it to understand the user's directions so that it can plot addresses and web locations.

Microsoft recently updated its Windows Live service in a bid to make photo sharing, email and instant messaging easier for web users.

It launched a new service called Windows Live Essentials which consisted of free downloadable software aimed at streamlining and consolidating digital content.

Writing on the official blog, Windows Live Experience Programme Management corporate vice president Chris Jones said: "Our customers communicate through many unconnected web services and want access to it all from a single location."
