Email Marketing and Social Media Advertising to lead the way in 2010 (both services offered by Living Streams)
Trends relating to the practice of online advertising and how internet marketing consultants will be spending their budgets in 2010 have been revealed in a new report.
According to the 2010 Marketing Trends Survey by StrongMail, social media and email marketing are the two most popular areas for brands, with advertisers declaring that they will increase expenditure on their use in the coming year, eMarketer reports.
Of those asked, 69 per cent stated that email would receive a greater proportion of the budget, while 59 per cent said the same about social media.
With almost nine out of ten companies planning to elevate or maintain their marketing spend, it was also found that the combination of both social and email-related techniques is an emerging trend in advertising.
Over 40 per cent commented that this collaboration was one of the most important schemes for next year.
However, it may be difficult establish positive results from the use of these two practices together, as the study showed that although a lift in campaign performance was witnessed by 42 per cent of managers, 35 per cent recorded no improvement.
Being patient in this regard may yield more positive outcomes however, as social media consultant for The Social Media Explorer Jason Falls recently noted that by utilising these networks, firms that are seeking "long-term, sustainable customer relationships … can spend less per month/year/quarter".
Living Streams comment: The survey showed that areas where spend will be reduced in 2010 are offline advertising, offline direct mail and trade shows /events.
