Google makes changes to analytics qualifications 10/02/2010 How will this affect you? (Andy Carter)

As web features become more complex qualifications become more relevant when choosing suppliers

Analytics Qualifications - Standards Raised

Technology giant Google has announced that it is altering its analytics qualifications and is increasing the pass mark from 75 per cent to 80 per cent, news which may affect internet marketing consultants and others.

Alden DeSoto of the Google Analytics Team observed in a post on the official company blog that web analytics are "increasingly important" to companies working in various industries, ranging from consumer labels and agencies to online retailers and not-for-profit organisations.

This is because they are becoming evermore reliant on those who are trained in Google Analytics and Mr DeSoto noted that those with scores of less than 80 per cent do not need to be overly concerned as yet.

He reassured individuals, saying: "This change doesn't affect your current qualification."

However, Mr DeSoto did recommend that people consider undertaking the web-based seminar provided by the company when the time comes to renew their qualification, which is a year-and-a-half after the initial course was completed.

"At that time, you'll be expected to score at least 80 per cent," he remarked.

Those with further questions may benefit from viewing some of the videos on offer as part of the firm's Rapid Fire series, or Web Analytics TV.

In the fourth instalment, for example, experts answer queries relating to the tracking of social media referrals and how sharing data impacts on organic search rankings.
