Google has launched a new guide to aid website owners looking to use analytics to see how visits correspond with events, something that may interest internet consultants.
The search engine announced that those using its Google Analytics services can define advanced segments to isolate event-related sites, meaning page views, average page views and the time spend on a website with events can be compared to overall figures.
Alden DeSoto of the Google analytics team explained that the event details that are tracked is the only thing limiting the variety of segments that are created.
"So, if you track video interactions, you can create segments that only include visits during which videos were viewed," he explained.
Mr DeSoto noted that in order to gather the data, users will need to "define an advanced segment that only includes visits with events".
Once this has been done, he remarked, activating it will give side-by-side data throughout Google Analytics reports.
Last month Google highlighted a number of applications that may be of use to those who want to track their analytics data through their mobile phone.
The firm recommended the Mobile GA app by Actual Metrics for Android users, as well as Google Analytics for the iPhone.
