Google launches analytics tool for YouTube
01/10/2008
A new tool designed to help YouTube users better analyse their videos is to be released, reports Google.
Google will launch a new feature for its YouTube users which will allow uploaders to analyse their video data more closely, according to the official Google blog.
The feature, called Hot Spots, will display a graph alongside a video showing the ups and downs of the number of viewers at any given time during the clip.
This will allow users to compare their videos abandonment rate alongside other YouTube clips of the same size and length.
It will also allow users to see which parts of their videos are being watched the most.
The tool is designed to help uploaders improve their content by finding out the least interesting moments of their clips.
According to Google, the benefits of the new tool include making users aware of what parts of the video they need to edit, as well as advice on how to keep their audience engaged by using ideas like annotations.
A YouTube spokesman told Wired.com: "[The feature] helps advertisers test creatives by seeing how users respond and what parts of ads keep viewers."
Google purchased YouTube for around $1.65 billion (£883 million) in October 2006.
